Mr. Peppers Goes Walking

Our dog, Mr. Peppers is a spunky 5-year old Havanese, with more energy than a bee’s hive.  So, lately he has figured out that if I say the word “walk”, he immediately knows what I mean.  He normally sits in the picture window chair facing the road in front of our house.  Of course setting off the barking alarm when anyone dares to drive through our small cul-de-sac.

But, since he has learned the word “walk”, he jumps off his guard duty chair and runs to the hooks at the side door.  This is where his leash is kept.  He then starts barking non stop for someone to follow through with what he anticipates will happen.  Even though, many times I am very tired having just finished gardening, or cleaning, or whatever, I can’t bear to hear the pleading.

So, the leash gets snapped onto his collar, and we are off.  I must say the country lane right around the corner from our house is so pleasant, even my tiredness enjoys.  Mr. Peppers, of course, loves the walk.  He sniffs grass, watches for the deer, hopes to see other furry friends, and truly enjoys his time. He is not at all bored, and usually demands another round up the lane and back.

Life is never mundane as long as there is a Mr. Peppers in the our senior household.  I really do have to thank him for getting my tired body out of the house, even when I accidentally mention, ‘The Walk’.
