June Bugs

Out on my porch this morning, as it has been now for the past 2 weeks, these little gross insects called June Bugs are squirming on their backs, hoping to get upright again. And, while they are squirming, my broom is sweeping them off into oblivion, hoping to never see them again. I look up to Heaven, and say to the Good Lord, “What were you thinking?” Of course, He makes everything beautiful in His time.

Other than the goofy June Bugs, this season, as we know it as Spring, is breath-takingly beautiful! Everyday is a new explosion of color, whether along the road, in the field, along the highway, or in our own gardens, we see beauty! Take the wild blue flowers waving to us in the fields, the daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths, that have come and gone. The snowball bushes, of which I have two, are spilling over with giant white balls of flowers. Lilac bushes perfuming my back porch, the morning glory vines creeping up out of the ground, and the strong scented irises in ruffles. I could go on and on about the joy I find in just going to the flower nurseries and picking up more marigolds and petunias than I can possibly plant. Oh Spring, please, please, don’t go away.

But, with the beauty, does come the ugly. If only I had a penny for all the weeds I have pulled! So, I pull weeds, I sweep off June Bugs, and I sit on my back porch and watch nature unfold into the handiwork of God. Thank you, Lord, for this awesome season, even for (I can’t believe I’m saying this) June Bugs!

Happy Spring
