This past Valentine’s Day just might be the most memorable ever in my mind. It all started last year in the month of May, when I was out in my garden pulling out all the unwanted weeds from the previous summer. After about 3 hours of this, I came into the garage, pulled off my gloves, and advanced to the shower.
That evening I discovered the round brilliant diamond in my wedding ring was missing. I can’t tell you how awful I felt, especially discovering that we failed to insure the ring. We searched the hill where I was weeding, but day after day there was no sign of the diamond.
After pricing the diamond at several jewelers, we just had to put off any replacement, unless of course, we came into an exorbitant amount of money.
So, for this year’s Valentine celebration, Bill decided we should go to a marriage retreat held in Branson, Mo. The retreat was held during the Valentine weekend at the luxurious Hilton Hotel down on the Branson Landing. So it was perfect to meet many of our friends, drink coffee at Starbucks, and talk about old times, laughing and crying at the same time.
On Friday night right before the banquet buffet was served, the master of ceremonies randomly stopped at a few tables, asking the wife or husband to explain in one word a description of their mate. I was surprised when he stopped at my table. “Rosalie, how would you describe your husband in one word?” My reply…”Romantic.” His response was, “Really, why do you say that?” I then pointed to the vase full of carnations that sat on my table, which he promptly held up for everyone to see.
Of course he had no idea that right before the trip, Bill surprised me with a beautiful round brilliant diamond to replace the lost one. He had been saving all year and made it possible for me to have it on Valentine weekend. But then this is the teenager I met in high school, who from day one, has supplied me with countless bouquets of flowers, love notes, and surprise dates.
And with all of this he has a beautiful voice, which of course makes my heart melt. He occasionally sings “Some Enchanted Evening” just as good as Ezio Pinza from the musical South Pacific. So, am I thankful that I married a Romantic? Of course, but more than this, I am so thankful he has a relationship with the Lord, loves his kids, and leads our family spiritually.
This calls for some Tiramisu….the most romantic dessert I can think of. Make some tonight, and hug your family.
Love, Rosalie
